Tule River Tribe
THE TULE RIVER TRIBE
“Overcoming adversity is our way of life. Perseverance is how we live.”
The Tule River Tribe of California is a proud sovereign nation that strives to improve the livelihood of its members, and its surrounding communities through culture and economic development.
On January 9, 2023, the Tule River Tribe celebrated 150 years. After being uprooted twice, once from Sebastian Reservation right below Bakersfield, and then from Madden Farm in East Porterville, the tribe found a home here on the Tule River Reservation. Because of the strength and resiliency of their people, they have managed over the last 150 years to turn this area into home, ensuring it is a safe place for their families. This is all due to the strength and resiliency of their people.
In the words of Chairman, Neil Peyron:
“Today we celebrate courage, generosity, community, and success of Yokuts (means the people). This is what 150 years of hard work and dedication looks like.”
